RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Between 6 and 10 a.m. on Friday, Virginia State Police dispatchers across the state fielded 244 calls for service.

During that same time period, state troopers responded to 74 traffic crashes and 52 disabled vehicles. As of 11 a.m., state troopers are on scene of 24 traffic crashes statewide.

Police went ahead and broke down crashes per areas of the Commonwealth:

Division VII – Fairfax (Prince William/Loudoun/Arlington/Alexandria/Fairfax) experienced: Traffic Crashes=6 Disabled Vehicles=10.

Youseph Yazdi was surprised by the number of people who jumped in to help design better protective gear for people helping Ebola victims – everyone from freshmen to robotics experts to a wedding-dress maker.

But he was even more surprised when the solutions the team came up with at the hackathon at Johns Hopkins University attracted the notice of leading producers of protective clothing. A version of the suit they designed will be manufactured by DuPont and available early next year, the university announced Monday.

ARLINGTON, Va. - A top state official in Virginia is kicking off a new plan to update methods for safe and effective policing.

The Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company will hold their annual Fire Prevention Open House on Saturday, October 3 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Fire Station 20, located at 61 Plaza Street, NE.
