Regional EMS

The Northern Virginia Emergency Medical Services Council (NVEMSC) was established in 1980 as one of eleven councils serving the Commonwealth of Virginia. NVEMSC was at the forefront of planning and implementing a coordinated regional EMS system for over four decades. On January 6, 2025, NVEMSC merged with the Northern Virginia Emergency Response System (NVERS).

NVERS is committed to continuing to ensure the highest standard of emergency medical care throughout Northern Virginia by fostering collaboration and innovation in the delivery of EMS services.  The committees and work groups that support the northern region EMS system are led by the EMS Advisory Committee.

Some examples of NVERS’ Regional EMS Programs include:

  • Technical Assistance  - Planning and Coordinating regional EMS Response.
  • Life-saving Innovation  - Facilitating the Northern prehospital whole blood program.
  • Funding Opportunities  - Guidance on grant opportunities for localities, such as the Rescue Squad Assistance Fund.
  • Improving Patient Care  - Training and continuing education opportunities, and development of performance improvement strategies.
  • Enhancing Community Preparedness  - Emergency planning and preparedness activities.
