American Association for the Advancement of Science needs volunteer scientists and engineers to assist K-12 STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) teachers in Loudoun County. Blossom and Bloom thrift shop needs volunteers Tuesdays through Saturdays. Two three-hour shifts are available: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. The shop benefits ECHO and the Arc of Loudoun.703-777-3286.

Capital Caring Hospice needs volunteers to provide support to patients and families. Read aloud, run errands, provide moral support or help in the office. Training is provided. CrisisLink, a suicide and crisis hotline, needs volunteers 21 and older. Volunteers must complete 60 hours of training and be available three hours a week. Call 703-527-6016 or go to crisislink.org.

Fauquier Hospital Auxiliary needs volunteers at the front desk, the gift shop, the home-care shop and the surgical waiting room desk. Help is also needed with bingo and passing out popcorn at the Fauquier Health Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Call Lynn Lauritzen at 540-316-2910.

First Night Warrenton needs volunteers to help greet the public, sell buttons and hand out candles for the Grand Illumination at the New Year’s Eve celebration, sponsored by the Bluemont Concert Series. Shifts are two to three hours. Dec. 31, 6-11:45 p.m., in downtown Warrenton. Volunteers get one free admission button and access to the hospitality area for food and beverage.
