NVERS Weekly Update, January 27-31
NVERS Weekly Blog, January 27-31st
This week at NVERS, the NVERS Steering Committee held their monthly Steering Committee meeting on Monday, January 27th. During the meeting a presentation was made regarding M-View, a secure, web-based portal that enables first responders across the NCR to view and share real-time, camera video streams. The purpose of this presentation was to gauge Steering Committee interest on procuring and installing video software through the MVIEW project, further improving the situational awareness available to jurisdictions and disciplines in Northern Virginia.
Other presentations during the Steering Committee meeting included an overview of the resources available through the Incident Management Team (IMT), the future direction of NVERS as an organization and an update on the progress of the NVERS 2020 initiative.
Steering Committee members also discussed UASI FY2014 funding timeline and were in agreement that while sustainment of current projects is a priority, other initiatives should be further explored despite the tight timeline. Following the meeting, Steering Committee members submitted additional project proposals for discussion and review in February.
Lastly, critical updates on specific projects were provided for the Steering Committee. The Patient Tracking System project has issued a purchase order for the iPad and iPad Mini devices and is preparing to address the rollout and training of the Patient Tracking application. Preparations are ongoing for the Inclusive Emergency Management workshop, which will build upon the Virginia Department of Emergency Managements V-510 course, Emergency Operations Planning: An Exclusive Approach. The workshop will include a second day presentation that will unpack the New York City ruling to outline the gaps across the City???s planning for vulnerable populations. Finally, the Operationalization of Plans projects is preparing to finish the Active Shooter interviews and will release their findings soon.
Beyond the Steering Committee, NVERS utilized a FY2011 grant it had received to procure five trained explosive ordinance device (EOD) canines for the region. USPCA-certified instructors for the course will travel to Alabama next week to test and select dogs for the agencies. A five-week, intensive training will occur before the dogs and handlers will be ready for service.
