Emergency Response Exercise at North Anna

Posted Feb 10, 2016

LOUISA COUNTY, VA (NEWSPLEX) -- The Virginia Department of Emergency Management and Dominion Virginia Power are working together to demonstrate their ability to protect public health and safety in the event of a radiological emergency at the North Anna Power Station.

They are conducting a full-scale exercise at the nuclear plant Tuesday.

VDEM is leading the exercise, simulating an emergency to help state and local governments test response procedures.

These kinds of exercises are held every year, alternating between the nuclear power stations at North Anna and Surry.

Response agencies and government representatives from Louisa, Orange, Hanover, Caroline and Spotsylvania counties are all participating.

Resident may see emergency response teams and their vehicles in the area as well as extra traffic on local roads during the exercise.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is monitoring the exercises' progress and will do an in-depth analysis of the results.

There will be a review of the exercise available at the public meeting on Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Richmond.
