In this four-hour NVERS Regional Speaker Series Event, Dr. Jeffery Harvey will complete a deep dive into crisis leadership and management. Dr. Harvey's presentation entitled "Building Capacity to Lead When It Matters Most" will include a detailed analysis into the key elements of crisis leadership and management. The topics discussed will include Crisis Definition and Elements, Crises as Problems, Crisis Leadership Tasks and Managing Perceptions in a Crisis.
Dr. Jeffery Harvey, CEM, is a professor of leadership at the University of Charleston (West Virginia). He is also the owner of JH Consulting, LLC, an emergency management and occupational safety consulting firm. Dr. Harvey has worked in the field of emergency management since 2002, having assisted in planning for local governments, industrial facilities, school systems, and businesses, and served as emergency support staff for mine disasters, severe weather events, and the COVID-19 pandemic. In his academic role, he has taught strategic and executive leadership at the graduate and doctoral levels. While at the University of Charleston, he designed the courses that constitute a concentration in crisis leadership for the school's graduate degree in strategic leadership program. His research focuses on collaboration in disaster response and has appeared in the Journal of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the Journal of Emergency Management.
